Live online course via Zoom: recordings are made available the next day. Recordings are available for a minimum of 6 months.

The course is a chance to keep building on our understanding of the Foundational hand. Time spent understanding how foundational is different from Italic and Uncial is key to gaining control over the broad edge nib. How do I get the strong arches and clean lines so characteristic of Foundational?

We will also be focused on projects and learning basic layout and design skills.

This class if for people who have experience with Foundational. It is not for total beginners to the hand. Those who have taken my “Intro to Broad Edge Calligraphy: Foundational Hand” are encouraged to take this class to continue developing their skills.

MATERIALS:
I feel very strongly that high quality materials are critical to success when learning calligraphy. Calligraphy is a challenging skill to learn and requires patience, persistence and of course, practice. The last thing a person new to calligraphy needs is inferior equipment that impedes the learning curve. Handouts are designed to use the specific nibs listed. That is why I highly recommend using the suggested materials on the supply list below:

The class will be recorded and made available to students.

TIME: Each 2-hour class is a diverse combination of learning about the art of calligraphy, seeing samples, student lettering and creating projects. There will also be an assignment to practice the skill that was introduced. This return to lettering is a great way to create the muscle memory that is so important to calligraphy.

Each class also builds on the class before and does not repeat the same information.
