Simple Gifts Ornament
The Shaker song, Simple Gifts, is one of my favorites! I sang it at 4-H summer camp as a young girl and it has stuck with me ever since. Now I sing it to my son.
The original song was written by Joseph Brackett, Jr. and many over the years have added to and adapted the song. Following is the original version of the song:
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free
‘Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be.
And when we find ourselves in the place just right.
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and bend we shan’t be ashamed;
To turn, turn will be our delight,
‘Til by turning, turning we come round right.
As always, this is a limited edition, hand assembled ornament. It includes a silk screen print of my lettering, acid free materials and is made out of at least 60% recycled materials.
May you enjoy the simple gifts and use the freedoms we are blessed with every day!
