SUMMARY
This workshop introduces large fairy tale-like decorated letters that include animals. The goal of the program is to get participants exploring color combinations, blending and shading with colored pencils. By providing participants with letters and animals they can trace, they can focus on playing with color rather than fretting over the drawing process.

The program starts with a slide show about decorated letters, some historical samples and the impact they have on design. A-Z handouts and animal handouts are available for participants to choose the design elements. Colored pencil techniques are also presented. Appropriate for all ages. A great family friendly activity as well.

DETAILS
Class size: 20 (feel free to accept reservations for 25) 
I come prepared with extra sets of supplies

Appropriate for adults, teens and middle school and elementary students. I’m a big fan of multi-generational classes.  

This class is also set up for Online programs. Digital images are made available for participants to select and print their letter and creature. No limit to online attendance.

MATERIALS I provide
1) Versal letters A-Z
2) Ocean critter worksheets 
3) professional quality pigment-intense colored pencils
4) pencils
5) pencil sharpeners
6) drawing paper and regular paper
7) tape
8) light boxes to aid the tracing process
9) extension cords and power strips

What I need from the library:
1) Projector
2) Tables for participants
3) One table for presenter
4) Two tables for handouts and supplies (entire alphabet and all the animal handouts)
5) Access to electrical outlets. I provide light boxes for each patron to facilitate the tracing of the letter and creature.

COSTS:
For a 90-minute program, starting cost is: $275 includes all material costs.

Libraries that are more than 75 miles away there is a $75 travel fee. 

Mileage: All in-person classes do have a mileage reimbursement fee for the round trip from my studio in North Granby, Connecticut. I follow the IRS mileage reimbursement rate.

Block booking: Additional programs on the same day are $190. Please add mileage costs between locations. Please contact me for out-of-state block booking rates.

Dramatic decorated letters have been part of manuscripts and books for centuries. Calligraphers create ornate letters all the time in their artworks. Let’s learn about these decorated versal letters and then step by step, we will make our very own Fairy TAIL letter! They make wonderful gifts! No drawing or calligraphy experience is necessary—letters and critters will be traced. We will be learning several colored pencil techniques and using professional quality, pigment intense colored pencils. Calligrapher Debby Reelitz will guide us through this no-stress, fun, colorful program.
