Joy and Change Ornament
The designation of 120-year old Belden Forest in Simsbury as an Old Growth Forest is worthy of celebration! Belden is now protected from logging—an all too-rare status! This allows us to see the biodiversity, soaring pine tree canopy, thick duff layer and lack of invasives that are possible in a mature forest—not to mention all the carbon capture these giant pines and oaks are doing to help our planet!
Belden Forest is a great reminder there is JOY in change! For the design of this ornament, the tree top canopy of Belden wraps around delta–the equilateral triangle, the mathematical symbol for change. Even though change is constant, too often, we fear and resist it. Many say this fear of change is what keeps us humans from doing what we must in order to save the earth from the climate crisis.
What I can offer is that the more I have changed and disconnected with our consumeristic culture and the more I connect with the earth, it’s soil, people and creatures, the more joy I experience!
